Missions

Missions...across the street, around the globe!

Reaching outside of ourselves with the love of Jesus is very important to us at Community Baptist.  Jesus has commanded us to be His witnesses right here in Charlottetown, across Canada, throughout North America, and around the world.  Here are a few ways we carry out that Great Commission...

Christmas Giving

The Christmas Season is a time when we remember God's greatest gift to us...Himself, wrapped in flesh as a baby named Jesus.  As we give gifts to our friends and family we also remember that there are many people who may not be on anybody's shopping list.  We may never personally meet the recipients of some of these gifts, but we pray they will know they are on God's heart as they receive these tangible expressions of His love:
  • Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry (Community Baptist serves as one of two collection locations for thousands of shoeboxes each year from across the Island.)
  • Angel Tree ministry (Each angel on the Angel Tree has the name and age of a child of an inmate at Sleepy Hollow Correctional Centre.  Every Christmas we invite our members to take these angels and provide a gift for those parents to give to their children.)
  • We also provide Christmas gifts for the residents of Hillsborough Hospital.
  • Through our Benevolent Fund our deacons are able to provide a food hamper for many needy families in the area with all the trimmings for a beautiful turkey dinner.

Newcomer Outreach

Reaching out to newcomers is another area of ministry that God has led us to.  Over the past few years we have been offering free EAL (English as an Additional Language) classes to Mandarin, Korean, and Russian speaking immigrants.  What a blessing it has been to make new friends from around the world!  And although many move on to other cities after a time, we rejoice that some have found Christ and will bring His light to their new communities.  Community has also been blessed with a Mandarin speaking missionary/church planter, and P.E.I. (Providence Evangelical International) Church now holds bilingual services (Chinese/English) every Sunday afternoon.

Family-to-Family Giveaway

Each year we collect new and nearly new houshold items, furniture, clothes, etc... and just GIVE it away.  Our Family to Family Giveaway is open to anyone in need.  Fill a bag, fill a box, we just ask that you take what you'll use.  (We trust nothing will be used for resale.)  We have freely received God's abundant grace, and we desire to freely give to others.

Mission Trips

Experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip.  These opportunities are available from time to time in partnership with our sister churches in the East Coast Baptist Association.  Previous trips have been to Mississippi and Louisiana to help rebuild homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina and to parts of New England to help churches with community outreach efforts.

Missions Offerings

Every year we collect special missions offerings for Canada, North America, and International missions.  100% of those offerings go directly to missionaries on the field.  We also "tithe" (give 10%) of all general offerings collected at Community Baptist to missions through what is called The Cooperative Program.  More than 44,000 churches across Canada and the United States contribute to the Cooperative Program to support approximately 11,000 missionaries around the world.  Together we really can do so much more than we could ever do by ourselves!  What a privilege it is to be part of a family of churches with a passion to embrace the ends of the earth with the good news of Jesus!
